During the week we are both IT professionals working for a well-known South African Retail company.
Outside of work we are both active individuals who share the passion for nature and being outdoors.
We take part in road and trail running, we have an addiction to endurance and water sports, especially
water skiing.
As individuals we have both travelled extensively - Deirdre into Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Malawi, whilst Gerhard explored most of the more remote parts of South Africa.
Over the last 10 years we have toured South Africa. We are both trained and experienced 4x4 drivers and
have taken part in a number of 4x4 challenge events where we managed 1st mixed couple and 2nd overall placings.
More recently we expanded our ventures by using our dual purpose motorbike.
We have subsequently built up a vast knowledge of the area,
interacted with the local people, and established access to areas which are not accessible to the general public.
Once leaving the tarred roads, we travel along remote roads deep into the Karoo in search of the quiet and unspoilt
parts. Here we set up camp and live as close to nature as possible, we meet with the local people, learn about the
history, and collect tales and stories.
The purpose of our trips is not to be run as a business, but an opportunity to share our knowledge and the secrets of our beautiful country with others who will eventually become friends.
The Karoo is without attitude and life happens at a slow pace. We therefore also believe in leaving all attitudes at home, and travel slowly and safely at a pace that ensures enjoyment for all.
This website is intended to make our ventures more visible and attract potential touring partners who are likeminded and share the same quest for the simple yet beautiful things that life has to offer.
